Accra International Airport Deploys Advanced Security Screening Equipment

Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the installation of new, state-of-the-art security screening equipment at Accra International Airport.

The upgraded systems are now operational at passenger screening checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3, designed to enhance aviation security standards while significantly improving passenger convenience.

Under the new procedures, travellers will no longer be required to remove laptops and other large electronic devices from their cabin baggage during screening.

Passengers may also proceed through security with footwear and belts on, except in cases where additional profiling is necessary. Liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) can remain in carry-on bags, subject to the standard 100ml restriction per container.

An innovative automatic tray return system has been introduced to accelerate the screening process by promptly returning trays for the repacking of personal items.

The transition to the new equipment is being implemented progressively alongside existing protocols. GACL management has requested the full cooperation of passengers and stakeholders as operations with the advanced systems commence in the coming days.
