Armah Says Black Stars Management Committee Got No Qualifying Pay, Only $50,000 World Cup Fee
Members of Ghana’s Black Stars Management Committee received $50,000 each as appearance fees for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, representing a 50% reduction from the amount paid to the committee during the 2022 tournament in Qatar, committee member Moses Armah has revealed.
Speaking to Medeama FM, Armah said management committee members were paid half of the players’ appearance fees after the World Cup and did not receive any additional daily allowances or performance bonuses. He also disclosed that committee members received no financial compensation during Ghana’s qualifying campaign for the tournament.
“Members of the Black Stars Management Committee received only half of the players’ appearance fee, meaning each of us received $50,000. There was no per diem or winning bonus for the committee,” Armah said.
The figure marks a sharp drop from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, when Management Committee member Alhaji Karim Grusah disclosed that each committee member received $100,000 in appearance fees. The latest payment therefore represents a 50% reduction in the committee’s World Cup earnings compared with the previous tournament.
Armah also said he donated part of his appearance fee to pastors who prayed for him and the Black Stars throughout the tournament.
The disclosure comes after Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams announced in October 2025 that members of the Black Stars Management Committee would be financially rewarded for helping Ghana qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, Armah revealed that the committee received no payment during the qualification campaign and that the only financial benefit members received was the $50,000 World Cup appearance fee, with no additional qualification bonus, per diem or winning bonuses paid.
Ghana exceeded expectations at the 2026 FIFA World Cup by progressing to the Round of 32 despite entering the tournament as one of the lowest-ranked teams in the competition. The Black Stars reached the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
