Ato Forson to Present Ghana’s 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review Today
Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, is set to present the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament on Thursday, July 23, offering an assessment of the economy’s performance in the first half of the year and outlining the government’s fiscal priorities for the remainder of 2026.
The review is expected to measure progress in implementing the 2026 Budget, which was framed around moving the economy from macroeconomic stabilisation towards sustained growth while maintaining fiscal discipline.
Since the budget was presented in November 2025, several key economic indicators have strengthened. Inflation has fallen to 5.3 per cent, while improvements have also been recorded in fiscal consolidation, external sector performance and debt sustainability.
Dr Forson is expected to update lawmakers on domestic revenue mobilisation, government expenditure, public debt management and financing plans for the second half of the fiscal year.
The government is not expected to introduce new taxes as part of the review. Instead, the presentation is likely to focus on improving the implementation of existing fiscal measures and consolidating recent gains in macroeconomic stability while supporting economic growth.
The Finance Minister is also expected to provide an update on Ghana’s transition from the International Monetary Fund’s Extended Credit Facility programme to a Policy Coordination Instrument, which is expected to serve as a framework for the country’s economic reform agenda following the conclusion of the current IMF programme.
The Mid-Year Budget Review comes at a critical point for Ghana’s economic recovery and will provide Parliament, businesses, investors and development partners with a clearer picture of the government’s fiscal outlook.
Attention will be focused on the government’s assessment of inflation, interest rates, exchange-rate stability, public spending and borrowing, as well as any adjustments to its economic and financing strategy for the remainder of the year.
