Dennis Miracles Aboagye’s Assets Frozen as EOCO Investigates Alleged GH¢55m Misappropriation

The High Court in Accra has ordered the freezing of five bank accounts and four landed properties belonging to former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Dennis Edward Aboagye, popularly known as Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

The order was granted following an application by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as part of its ongoing investigation into the alleged misappropriation of approximately GH¢55 million at the IMCCoD.

EOCO is investigating allegations of fraud, theft and procurement-related breaches linked to Mr. Aboagye’s tenure as Executive Secretary of the committee. The asset preservation order is intended to safeguard property that may be relevant to the investigation.

The latest development comes weeks after Mr. Aboagye was arrested at Kotoka International Airport on July 12 upon his return to Ghana. He was intercepted by immigration officials and subsequently handed over to EOCO for questioning before being released.

According to EOCO, the arrest followed significant new findings that emerged during its investigations. The agency said Mr. Aboagye had been aware of the probe and had previously honoured invitations to assist investigators. However, it noted that a stop order had been placed on him to prevent any travel that could potentially interfere with the ongoing investigations.

EOCO says the case forms part of a wider investigation into alleged financial irregularities within the IMCCoD.

As part of the same probe, the agency has also confirmed the arrest of the committee’s former accountant, Gerald Appiah, as investigations into the alleged loss of public funds continue.

Neither Mr. Aboagye nor his legal representatives had publicly responded to the latest court order at the time of publication.
