Desmond Ofei names squad as Black Meteors open camp

Ghana’s U-23 national team, the Black Meteors, will open a training camp in Accra on Wednesday, August 5, as preparations begin for the 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Players selected from the Ghana Premier League and Division One League have been instructed to report to the Erata Hotel at East Legon at 4:00pm for the start of camp. The current squad comprises locally based players, with arrangements for foreign-based players expected to be announced at a later date.

The Black Meteors will train at the University of Ghana Stadium as head coach Desmond Ofei begins shaping his squad for the continental qualifiers.

Although the qualification campaign is scheduled to begin during the September international window, Ghana has received a first-round bye and will enter the competition in October. The draw for the next stage is yet to be announced by CAF.

The locally based contingent is expected to form the core of Ofei’s squad as Ghana targets a return to the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament also serves as the African qualification pathway to the men’s football competition at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
