FIFA Drops Forward Enterprise Proposal Following Stakeholder Opposition

FIFA has withdrawn its proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise project after concluding that the initiative had become too divisive despite its aim of strengthening football development around the world.

In a statement attributed to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the governing body said the proposal was originally intended to provide additional support for its member associations, particularly in countries where investment in football is most needed.

FIFA said the project was always subject to consultation with its member associations, the FIFA Council, the continental confederations and other stakeholders, and would only have proceeded if it secured the backing of a majority of its member associations.

However, after considering feedback received during the consultation process, FIFA said it had become clear that the proposal had created divisions that were no longer in the best interests of the game’s development.

“Our purpose has always been – and will always be – to unite and improve,” the statement said, confirming that the proposal would not proceed.

Infantino said FIFA would instead focus on bringing stakeholders back together in the coming days and weeks, with the aim of finding common ground and continuing efforts to grow football worldwide, particularly in countries that require the greatest support.
