Ghana Court Grants Police Backing for Takeover of No. 1 Oxford Hotel
Ghana’s High Court has authorised police assistance for UK-based Cola Holdings Limited and its appointed receiver to take possession of the No. 1 Oxford Street Hotel in Osu, Accra, amid a continuing legal dispute over the property.
Justice Samuel Faraday Johnson of the Commercial Division issued the warrant on July 21, 2026, after Cola Holdings and receiver Nii Amanor Dodoo told the court they had been unable to take control of the hotel peacefully.
Kensington Residential Partners 1 Limited, represented in the case by director Nana Kwame Bediako, opposed the application. The court, however, rejected the objection, finding that Cola Holdings had properly registered its claim over the property and obtained the required authorisation to enforce its security.
The ruling means the company and the receiver can now use police assistance, if necessary, to take possession of the hotel and proceed with steps to recover the money owed under the security arrangement.
The court stressed that its decision was limited to the request for police assistance. It did not rule on other aspects of the dispute, including pending appeals or the wider claims between the parties.
The case is linked to efforts to enforce in Ghana a judgment from the High Court of England and Wales. Bediako has previously disputed liability under that judgment and said his lawyers were challenging its enforcement in Ghana.
He has also said the underlying transaction involved financing obtained by Kensington Residential Partners 1 Limited from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and that he had appealed an earlier Ghanaian court decision concerning registration of the foreign judgment.
Cola Holdings and the receiver were represented by Tsatsu Tsikata and Tata Kosi Foliba, while Bobby Banson and Isaac Akerefie-Mensah represented Kensington Residential Partners 1 Limited.
The latest order gives Cola Holdings and the receiver legal authority to move forward with taking control of the luxury hotel, but the wider legal battle remains unresolved. Further appeals and other legal proceedings could still affect the final outcome of the dispute.
