MTN Ghana Marks 30 Years with Major Nationwide Healthcare Boost
MTN Ghana has launched a significant healthcare initiative to commemorate its 30 years of operations in the country, focusing on refurbishing thousands of hospital beds and supporting patients through its annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign.
The company, in collaboration with partners including DOSH Foundation and Sika Pɛ Adwuma Co. Ltd., restored 3,888 hospital beds along with essential equipment such as ward screens, drip stands, metallic cabinets, and patient chairs. MTN staff volunteered their time and skills for the repairs, which were then distributed to seven major facilities: Achimota Hospital, Maamobi General Hospital, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, and Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital.
Speaking at the handover ceremony at Achimota Hospital on June 26, 2026, Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, reflected on the company’s milestone.
“As we planned this year’s Y’ello Care programme, we asked ourselves a simple question: what does 30 years in Ghana truly mean if it does not show up in the lives of the people we serve? That question shaped everything we decided to do,” she said.
Wiafe noted that the initial target was 3,000 beds, but enthusiastic employee participation helped exceed that goal. The project aims to ease the longstanding challenge of bed shortages in public hospitals and improve conditions for both patients and healthcare workers.
As part of the wider support, a GH¢1 million package through DOSH Health Insurance will help patients who’ve finished treatment but are struggling to clear their bills. This package includes provisions for follow-up care.
This healthcare-focused campaign celebrates MTN Ghana’s 30th anniversary. The theme, “progress powered by customers and communities”, highlights the company’s investments in digital infrastructure and mobile money services, which have revolutionised connectivity in Ghana since 1996.
MTN’s commitment to national development extends beyond telecommunications. Through employee volunteerism and strategic partnerships, it improves healthcare access and quality of life for Ghanaians.
