Even as the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup journey concluded in the Round of 32, Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has used the moment to reaffirm the association’s long-term vision for Ghanaian football.
In a detailed message to the nation released today, Okraku expressed gratitude to supporters while framing the campaign as a valuable learning experience rather than a failure.
“Before the start of the 2026 World Cup, many doubted the team’s ability to compete at this global stage. Yet, the Black Stars responded by qualifying from a difficult group into the Round of 32,” Okraku wrote. “That resilience should make every Ghanaian and our supporters proud.”
The president thanked the Head Coach, players, technical team, and support staff for their commitment, alongside the Government of Ghana and the GFA’s sponsors and partners.
Okraku emphasized that every challenge strengthens resolve and that the experiences gained would prepare the team for greater success ahead.
“We also thank the wonderful people of Ghana and our supporters around the world for your faith in the team. Your belief and support gave the Black Stars the strength to fight in every match,” he added.
Looking ahead, Okraku outlined clear priorities for the GFA: building a stronger, deeper, and more balanced squad capable of returning to the Africa Cup of Nations, competing for continental titles, and achieving higher levels of success on the world stage.
“Let us not use this moment to dwell on the disappointment of the team’s inability to advance to the next Round of the World Cup but forge ahead with renewed determination and oneness of purpose to build a stronger team for the future,” the statement concluded.
Okraku’s statement comes at a time when discussions about the direction of Ghanaian football are expected to intensify, with the GFA signaling its commitment to long-term development despite the immediate disappointment of the World Cup exit.
