Head Coach of the Black Stars, the Portuguese tactician, is absent for personal reasons from Ghana’s international friendly against Mexico on Friday in Puebla.
Queiroz, who was recently appointed as Ghana’s head coach, has been integral to the team’s buildup toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Despite missing this fixture, he remains fully committed to leading the Black Stars’ preparations and finalizing the squad for the tournament, where Ghana face Panama, England, and Croatia in the group stage.
Assistant Coach Desmond Offei has overseen training since the team’s arrival in Mexico and will take charge of the match at Estadio Cuauhtémoc on May 22, 2026. He will be assisted by goalkeepers’ trainer Daniel Gaspar and set-piece coach/video analyst Gregory De Grauwe.
The friendly provides an important opportunity for the technical team to evaluate players and refine tactics ahead of the World Cup. Queiroz is expected to rejoin the squad shortly after the Mexico game.
