Antoine Semenyo produced another standout performance for Ghana as the Black Stars claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Panama to start their World Cup campaign on the right foot.
The Manchester City forward was a constant threat on the left flank and was instrumental in several dangerous moves, including a key transition pass that helped set up attacking opportunities. His efforts earned him the Man of the Match award in the Group L opener at Toronto’s BMO Field.
In the post-match mixed zone, Semenyo spoke calmly about his next task.
“The game against England is going to be a tough game. We are going to recover first and train hard ahead of that,” the 26-year-old said.
Ghana face England on June 23 at Boston Stadium in Foxborough. Semenyo, who has become a key figure for both club and country, will be central to the Black Stars’ hopes of causing an upset against the Three Lions in what promises to be one of the group’s most anticipated fixtures.
