Debibi United Defeat Tamale City to Earn Maiden GPL Spot

Debibi United clinched a dramatic 3-1 victory over Tamale City in the Access Bank Division One League Zone One playoff final at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, earning promotion to the Ghana Premier League for the 2026/27 season.

The Sunyani-based side, who topped Zone One B with 60 points, trailed 1-0 early but mounted a stunning comeback. Striker Kwadwo Antwi delivered a first-half hat-trick with goals in the 35th, 38th, and 43rd minutes, turning the game on its head before halftime. Debibi United held firm in the second half to seal the win and claim the Zone One title.

This marks the club’s first-ever ascent to Ghana’s top flight. Coach Isaac Nii Armah praised his team’s resilience, while Antwi described the achievement as a “dream come true.”

The playoff pitted the winners of Zone One A (Tamale City, 55 points) against Zone One B champions in a winner-takes-all clash for the final promotion spot. Debibi United’s success adds another chapter to the growing competitiveness of Ghana’s lower divisions.
