Tunisia Sacks Coach Sabri Lamouchi After 5-1 World Cup Defeat to Sweden
The Tunisian Football Federation has sacked head coach Sabri Lamouchi following the team’s heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening 2026 FIFA World Cup match on June 14.
Sweden dominated at Estadio BBVA in Monterrey, with Yasin Ayari scoring twice, alongside goals from Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyökeres, and Mattias Svanberg. Omar Rekik scored Tunisia’s consolation goal.
Lamouchi, appointed in January 2026, managed only five games before his dismissal, becoming the first coach removed during the tournament. The 54-year-old French-Tunisian had prior club experience with Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City.
Tunisia, in their sixth World Cup, now faces an uncertain campaign in a tough Group F that includes the Netherlands and Japan, with their next match against Japan approaching. No replacement has been announced.
