Black Queens Switch from Fez to Casablanca for WAFCON Group Stage

Ghana’s Black Queens will base their group stage preparations in Casablanca for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, following recent logistical updates to the tournament schedule.

The team’s location has shifted from the originally planned Fez to Casablanca. This change follows adjustments made by organisers as the continent’s premier women’s football tournament prepares to begin on July 26.

Ghana will compete in a competitive group alongside Cameroon Mali and debutants Cape Verde in the expanded 16-team competition. All of the Black Queens’ group matches will now be held in Casablanca venues providing the squad with greater convenience and focus during the crucial opening phase.

Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren and his players will look to capitalize on the updated arrangements as they aim for a strong start and progression to the knockout stages. A solid performance in Morocco would also boost Ghana’s hopes of securing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

As the tournament approaches, relocating to the vibrant city of Casablanca is considered a practical boost for the team’s camp setup training and overall readiness.
