Security Guards Detained After Gunfire at Safo Family Succession Ceremony
The Ghana Police have detained six private security personnel following a shooting incident that injured former Dome-Kwabenya MP and Minister Sarah Adwoa Safo on Sunday, June 21.
The confrontation involving her brother Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena took place at their father’s Kwabenya residence during a ceremony installing him as the new leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
This event follows the 2025 passing of the church’s founder Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka and is currently embroiled in a family succession dispute before the High Court.
Reports suggest Safo was denied entry and allegedly rammed the property gates with her car. Security guards fired shots grazing her neck and ear. She’s been treated at a hospital in East Legon and is stable. Her Toyota Land Cruiser is damaged by bullets.
Police recovered five pump-action guns a Taurus pistol with ammunition and communication equipment from the scene. Six guards were arrested and the security firm’s licence suspended. The Madina Divisional Police Command is leading the investigation.
The incident highlights longstanding family disputes about church leadership and property. Police have heightened security at the property while investigations are ongoing.
