GFA, Premier League Clubs Hold Key Talks Ahead of 2026/27 Season
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has held a high-level engagement with all 18 Ghana Premier League clubs as preparations gather pace for the 2026/27 season.
The meeting, held on Friday, July 24, was led by GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, with Acting Director of Competitions Maxwell Caesar Kemeh also in attendance.
A major focus of the discussions was a detailed review of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, with clubs offering candid assessments of the organisation and administration of the competition.
Club representatives acknowledged areas of progress while highlighting key issues requiring attention as the GFA seeks to improve the quality, competitiveness and overall professionalism of the league.
The clubs were also briefed on the fixtures for the upcoming season, with extensive discussions centred on ensuring clubs are adequately prepared and that collaboration between the GFA and the clubs is strengthened ahead of the new campaign.
Among the issues discussed were match scheduling, stadium availability, kick-off times, television production and broadcasting, matchday experience, ticketing, security, officiating and disciplinary matters.
The meeting also addressed integrity and ethics, publicity and promotion, match reporting and observer duties, as well as the scheduling of fixtures during the festive period.
Improving match attendance emerged as a key priority, with stakeholders exploring affordable and innovative ticketing models designed to make Premier League games more accessible and attractive to supporters.
At the same time, the GFA and clubs stressed the need for greater coordination when planning fixtures, taking into account broadcasting requirements, security, travel logistics and venue availability.
Youth development was another major theme, with clubs urged to increase investment in colts football to build a sustainable pipeline of talent for the future of Ghanaian football.
The clubs were also encouraged to play a stronger role in supporting women’s football as part of a broader strategy to develop the game at all levels.
Addo praised the clubs for their openness and constructive contributions, reaffirming the GFA’s commitment to maintaining regular dialogue with stakeholders as preparations for the new season continue.
The engagement will continue on Monday, July 27, when the GFA is scheduled to hold a follow-up meeting with the clubs focused specifically on the registration of youth players.
