Kenpong Travel Faces Liquidation Threat from First Atlantic Bank

First Atlantic Bank has petitioned the High Court in Accra to wind up Kenpong Travel & Tours Limited due to an unpaid judgement debt.

The bank claims the company can’t pay its debts as they come due. They’re asking the court to liquidate the business, appoint a liquidator to sell assets, and protect the company’s assets in the meantime.

Court records show the outstanding debt is GH¢2,549,969.28, including continuing commercial interest and GH¢20,000 in awarded costs. This debt stems from a 2022 court judgement in a case filed by the bank against the company and others. Despite attempts to delay or challenge enforcement over the past four years, the judgement remains unsatisfied. The bank also notes that the security originally provided for the facility could not be properly registered.

Kenpong Travel & Tours, a Ghanaian company, is known for organising travel packages, particularly for major international football events like the FIFA World Cup. It has established a presence in sports tourism and supporter travel for Ghanaian fans. Businessman Kennedy Agyapong leads the company.

Presenting a winding-up petition doesn’t automatically mean a company will be liquidated. Kenpong Travel & Tours could still oppose the application demonstrate its solvency offer a repayment schedule or negotiate a settlement.

No public comment has been received from the company at the time of this report. The matter remains before the Commercial Division of the High Court in Accra.
