WAFU-B Women’s Friendlies: Nigeria and Ghana Shine as Others Split Points
Several WAFU-B national teams played international friendlies during the FIFA window with interesting results.
Burkina Faso held Mali to a goalless draw (0-0) in a balanced, defensive match that offered few clear scoring chances.
Nigeria confirmed their superiority with a 2-1 victory over Senegal. Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, followed by Toni Payne’s strike in the 41st. Senegal responded late through S. N. Pene in the 87th minute but could not salvage a point.
Ivory Coast delivered a dominant performance, defeating Cape Verde 3-0. Kouassi Rosemonde scored twice (28’ and 60’), while N’Sira Safi Ouedraogo added the third goal just before halftime.
Benin suffered a 4-2 defeat away to Morocco. Milhad Sadikou and Léa Fachinan scored for the Beninese, but goals from Ibtissam Jraidi, Sakina Ouzraouidiki, Elodie Nakkach, and Jade Nassi secured the win for the hosts.
Ghana’s Black Queens recorded a convincing 4-0 victory against Ampem Darkoa Ladies at the Accra Sports Stadium, with goals from Evelyn Badu, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, Stella Nyamekye, and Mavis Owusu.
These friendlies reflect the ongoing commitment and preparation of the CAF Zone West-B teams as they work to strengthen their squads ahead of upcoming official competitions.
