“We Believed We Were Capable of So Much More” – Partey Reflects on Ghana’s 2026 World Cup Campaign

Ghana national team midfielder Thomas Partey has issued a moving public statement after the Black Stars’ exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, highlighting the team’s unfulfilled ambitions and gratitude toward supporters.

In his full post, Partey wrote:

“This wasn’t the way we wanted our World Cup journey to end. The disappointment is hard to put into words because we believed we were capable of so much more.

Representing Ghana on the biggest stage in football has been one of the greatest honours of my career. Every time I wear this shirt, I gave everything I had, and that’s something I’ll always be proud of.

To all the Ghanaians who supported us throughout this journey THANK YOU. Your passion, belief and unwavering support never went unnoticed. I felt it every step of the way.

Football can be cruel, but setbacks are part of the game. We’ll take the lessons, keep working, and come back stronger.

THANK YOU GHANA ❤️🇬🇭”

The statement captures the mixture of pride and frustration felt by the squad after advancing from the group stage only to exit in the Round of 32. Despite the early end to their tournament, Partey highlighted the honour of national service and the crucial role played by Ghanaian supporters.

As the Black Stars regroup, Partey’s reflection serves as both a farewell to this World Cup and motivation for future campaigns.
