Ghana Health Ministry Debunks SABC Report on Ebola Cases
Ghana’s Ministry of Health has denied a report by South African broadcaster SABC News that incorrectly suggested the country had recorded cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
The error occurred when Ebola-related statistics were mistakenly attributed to Ghana in an on-screen news ticker. SABC later acknowledged the mistake and apologised for any concern caused, clarifying that Ghana has not recorded any Ebola cases.
Ghanaian health authorities said they continue to monitor developments amid Ebola activity in parts of East and Central Africa. Surveillance has been strengthened at ports of entry, laboratories and healthcare facilities as part of routine preparedness measures.
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh recently visited key surveillance and treatment facilities as part of efforts to assess the country’s preparedness to respond to potential infectious disease threats.
Authorities stressed that the heightened surveillance does not indicate an outbreak in Ghana.
The Ministry urged the public to rely on verified information from official health authorities and warned that misinformation could cause unnecessary panic.
Ghana remains free of Ebola, the Ministry said, while continuing to work with international health partners, including the World Health Organization and Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, to monitor regional developments.
