Ghana’s Julian Nunoo Selected for WAFU Zone B U20 Championship

Ghanaian referee Julian Nunoo has been selected to officiate at the 2026 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship in Côte d’Ivoire, further strengthening his growing reputation on the regional football stage.

Nunoo is the only Ghanaian centre referee appointed for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 10 and will feature some of West Africa’s most promising young footballers.

The competition will also serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, which Ghana is set to host.

Nunoo’s appointment represents another significant milestone in his officiating career and reflects the confidence placed in his ability to manage high-level matches. He was named Ghana’s Best Referee in 2023 and has earned recognition for his decision-making, match management and physical fitness.

His continued selection for regional competitions by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and WAFU Zone B underscores his standing among the region’s leading match officials.

The appointment also highlights Ghana’s enduring influence in football officiating across Africa, with Nunoo now set to take charge of matches involving some of the continent’s most highly rated emerging talents.
