Hugo Broos Names Mexico Best Team in Group A
South Africa coach Hugo Broos has named co-hosts Mexico as the best side in Group A ahead of their 2026 World Cup opener.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, the Belgian veteran praised Javier Aguirre’s team for their quality and ambition. “They are a very complete team with a lot of movement and solidarity,” Broos said. “You see that those guys really want to become world champions. They are the best team in the group. They are all dangerous.”
Broos, who played in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, highlighted Mexico’s tactical cohesion, aggression, and collective defending. Group A also includes South Korea and Czechia, with the top two advancing.
Despite the challenge, the 73-year-old coach remains optimistic. “It will be very difficult for us, but a football game is a football game. We have our chances,” he added.
The match kicks off on June 11 at Estadio Azteca.
