Relegated Nations FC Shock Dreams FC to Win First FA Cup
Relegated Nations FC clinched their first MTN FA Cup title, defeating Dreams FC 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw following extra time at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Joseph Effah gave Nations FC the lead in the 31st minute, before Dreams FC’s Salifu equalized just before halftime. Neither team could break the deadlock in extra time, forcing the decisive shootout where Nations FC held their nerve.
The victory marks a historic achievement for the Abrankese side, who were relegated from the Ghana Premier League just weeks ago. They become the first relegated club to win the FA Cup in 34 years.
Nations FC’s impressive cup run included wins over Ebony FC, AshantiGold, Swedru All Blacks, Berekum Chelsea (on penalties), and Aduana FC in the semi-final. The triumph secures them a spot in the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup.
Coach Samuel Frimpong Manso’s resilient squad defied expectations in a memorable season of redemption.
Congratulations to Nations FC, the 2025/26 MTN FA Cup champions.
