The Slot Machine Breaks: Liverpool Axe Manager After Title Defence Collapse
Liverpool FC have parted ways with head coach Arne Slot with immediate effect, ending his two-year tenure at Anfield.
The Dutchman, who succeeded Jürgen Klopp in 2024 and delivered the Premier League title in his debut season, oversaw a disappointing 2025/26 campaign. Liverpool finished fifth with 60 points, exiting early from all cup competitions amid inconsistency, injuries and reported dressing-room tensions.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is the clear favourite to replace him.
In a club statement, Liverpool thanked Slot for his contributions: “We thank Arne for his dedication and the Premier League success in his first season. This change is necessary as we aim to compete consistently at the highest level.”
Slot departs with a substantial compensation package. The timing allows Liverpool to begin their search for a new head coach ahead of the summer transfer window and the 2026/27 season.
